E-commerce giant Amazon plans to invest $20 billion in Pennsylvania to grow its AI and cloud computing sectors. The investment is expected to create 1,250 high-paying jobs as per an Amazon news release.
As part of the initiative, Salem Township and Falls Township will be the first communities to be used as sites for future innovation campuses, with other Pennsylvania communities to be considered as well.
The new jobs created will include roles like data center engineers, network specialists, engineering operations managers, security specialists, and other relevant positions. Apart from these jobs, the investment is expected to support thousands of other jobs across Amazon Web Services’ data supply chain.
“Pennsylvania is competing again—and I’m proud to announce that with Amazon’s commitment of at least $20 billion to build new state-of-the-art data center campuses across our Commonwealth, we have secured the largest private sector investment in the history of Pennsylvania,” said Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania
The update comes amid a flurry of investment from Amazon into the Americas, as per multiple reports. Other investments include Amazon’s previously announced $5 billion investment in Mexico for setting up a data center. In addition to this back in April, Amazon committed another $4 billion worth of investment to expand its U.S. rural delivery network by the end of 2026 by enabling faster shipments, targeting consumers in smaller towns.
