Metaplanet issues $21 million worth of bonds to buy BTC

Japanese firm Metaplanet has issued its 14th series of ordinary bonds for a total of $21.25 million as per an X post on May 9, 2025. According to an official company filing, each bond will have a face value of $625,000. The bonds will have no interest attached to them.

This update comes after Metaplanet bought 555 BTC on May 7, 2025, increasing its total stash to 5,555 BTC. The company also announced that it issued $25 million of 0% bonds on the same day for the purpose of buying Bitcoin. 

Alongside Strategy, Metaplanet buys bitcoins at regular intervals as part of a strategy to earn a return on investment. As reported earlier by Coin Headlines, Metaplanet’s strategy of hodling bitcoin has given BTC yields of 41.7% in Q3 2024, 309.8% in Q4 2024, 95.6% in Q1 2025, and 21% in Q2 2025 on a QTD basis, as the quarter is not over yet

On May 2, 2025, Metaplanet issued 3.6 billion Japanese Yen in 0% interest bonds for buying additional bitcoin. 

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin is trading at a price of $103,230 and is up 4.2% over the last 24 hours.
