Popular Ethereum-based game Ember Sword by Bright Star Studios has shut down for good due to a lack of funding, according to the video game’s official page. This is an addition to the many blockchain and crypto games that are closing down.

“This is one of the hardest announcements we had to make,” stated the notice on the official website. “Back in December, we shared how we were fighting to keep Ember Sword moving forward despite the challenges.”

“Despite strong early support, promising early access player stats, and a passionate community, we were unable to secure the funding needed to continue.”

The platform’s servers will go offline, and the Discord server will be shut down to prevent any confusion or scams. The game received $203 million in NFT land sales in 2021 from 35,000 players amid the Metaverse boom, as reported by Decrypt.

Other games that have closed down as part of the wider shutdown include Dead Drop and The Mystery Society. Gala Games’ The Walking Dead: Empires will also close by the end of July.

“This isn’t the ending any of us wanted,” read the conclusion to the notice by Ember Sword. “But we sincerely wanted to thank you for being here, for believing in this vision, and for helping make Ember Sword something we’ll never forget.”
