Crypto wallet provider Ledger said that its platform is now secure after an unsuccessful hack attempt on its Discord server. The hacker infiltrated a moderator’s account, posting links, trying to get users to reveal their seed phrases, as reported by Cointelegraph.
Seed phrases are a crucial part of a crypto wallet as they can provide access to a user’s holdings. It is stored as a sequence of random words and is a vital part of the security system protecting crypto wallets. People with wallets are often encouraged by platforms never to reveal their seed phrases to anyone.
Members of the Discord channel confirmed that the hacker abused moderator privileges by muting and banning them when they tried to report the breach. Several took to X to report on the event.
“I think Ledger Discord has been hacked and this announcement is fake (link blurred out).
Be careful. Never enter your seed phrase anywhere no matter what anyone tells you.” said Shuri2060 on an X post on May 11, 2025.
In a previous incident in April, Scammers were mailing hard-copy letters to owners of hardware wallets, in an attempt to enter their wallets and empty them of funds.
Ledger is a crypto hardware wallet company created in 2014 by founders Éric Larchevêque, Nicolas Bacca, Thomas France, and Joel Pobeda. The current CEO is Pascal Gauthier.
