Ride-hailing company Uber announced a new feature on Wednesday in the works that would allow female customers to hail rides with women drivers. This update comes after multiple requests from women to create such a feature. Uber’s official X handle posted about the new feature.
“More choice. More control. Women told us they wanted the option to be matched with other women—and we listened,” the X post read.

“For the first time in the US, we’re launching Women Preferences—features designed to give women riders and drivers more choice, more confidence, and more flexibility when they use Uber,” said Operations VP, Camiel Irving.
Female riders will soon be able to opt for women-only rides in anyone of three ways: selecting a Women Drivers option when hailing a ride on demand, using the Reserve option to pre-book a trip beforehand, or setting a preference for women drivers in their app settings.
Uber has clarified that while the feature will boost chances of getting a female driver, it is not a guarantee of securing a women-only ride. The new feature will be rolled out in the coming weeks in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Detroit, with eventual plans to expand in the U.S.
