AI platform xAI has released an avatar feature on the paid version of Grok, known as SuperGrok, on Monday. As part of the rollout, paying users can now interact with two characters. Ani, a female anime character with Gothic Vibes, and Bad Rudy, a small fox in a hoodie and shorts.

Elon Musk posted about the update on X, alerting users about the new feature.

Musk also said the new feature was just a soft launch and that the avatars were being tested before an official launch. Users will have to update the app in order to try out these new companions. A third companion is currently in development, and while there is no name for the avatar, it appears to be the male counterpart to Ani, a male anime character in a black suit

Other Grok initiatives at play

The rollout comes alongside another initiative called Grok for government by Musk’s AI company, and an upgrade from Grok 3 to Grok 4.

As per a company announcement, Grok for government will be focused on providing its AI tools to federal, local, and state-level customers with additional features, including custom models, forward-deployed engineering, and custom-powered applications for use cases in healthcare, fundamental science, and national security.
