Notcoin said that the tap-to-earn gaming space is “probably dead” since Web3 gaming has changed its view towards more fun and engaging projects.
Co-founders Sasha and Vladimir Plotvinov shared their views in an interview with Cointelegraph on the sidelines of the Token2049 event in Dubai. They spoke at length about the state of Web3 gaming, the changing genres, and how there is a shift away from tap-to-earn as it has failed to generate players’ interest.
“We’re going to see different types of games, as tap-to-earn games are probably dead because they’re not sustainable,” said Vladimir.
Notcoin was a hugely popular title on Telegram, onboarding more than 30 million users in the first three months of its release. Sasha told Coin Telegraph that while Telegram gaming exploded in 2024, users soon started to change games, moving once they had farmed all they could from a specific project.
“Users who come to farm — their motivation is just to earn something. And with games, it’s more like I have fun, I want to play with my friends, and I want to play within a group,” she added.
Telegram’s blockchain platform—TON, or otherwise known as The Open Network—remains a popular spot for Web3 gaming. But with the introduction of an exclusivity agreement, Web3 titles are starting to shift away to other blockchains, such as Solana, for better access to users, as reported earlier by Coin Headlines.
