Metaplanet has increased its Bitcoin accumulation strategy with a fresh acquisition, adding 775 BTC worth about $93 million on August 18. At an average price of $120,06 per coin, the acquisition increased the company’s total holdings to 18,888 Bitcoin, which is currently worth $1.94 billion.

The most recent action adds to the BTC Yield, a performance metric that tracks the rise of Bitcoin per fully diluted share, which is 480% for the year and 29.3% for the quarter. In a post on X, CEO Simon Gerovich reiterated the company’s long-term Bitcoin strategy: “18,888 BTC.” Onward and upward.”

Metaplanet’s strategic Bitcoin bid

By 2027, the Tokyo-listed company hopes to have acquired 210,000 BTC, or 1% of the whole Bitcoin supply. Metaplanet has amassed 5,556 BTC in Q3 2025 alone, which was financed by loan financing, equity issuance, and the sale of stock acquisition rights.
In order to prepare for bigger acquisitions in the upcoming years, Metaplanet also filed plans earlier this month to fund 555 billion yen ($3.8 billion) through the issuance of two classes of preferred shares secured by Bitcoin.


The company’s short-term goals are to hold 100,000 Bitcoin by 2026 and 30,000 by the end of 2025. Metaplanet has already secured 18,888 BTC, but in order to reach its 2025 goal, it will require an additional 11,112 BTC during the following six months.
