The U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Marshall Service (USMS) have come under the spotlight for having sold off $6.3 million worth of Bitcoin that was paid for by the convicted developers of Samourai Wallet as part of their guilty plea. Bitcoin Magazine reported the development on Monday, citing a confidential and unpublicized document titled “Asset Liquidation Agreement”.
Senator Cynthia Lummins reacted to the report, slamming the government agencies for breaching direct orders from U.S. President Donald Trump. As per executive order 14233 signed by the POTUS, BTC seized during criminal investigation must be deemed as “government BTC” and be contributed to the proposed national BTC reserve.
“We can’t afford to squander these strategic assets while other nations are accumulating bitcoin. I’m deeply concerned about this report,” the Senator from Wyoming posted on X, re-sharing Bitcoin Magazine’s report.
Screenshots of the Asset Liquidation Agreement obtained by the media show Samourai’s jailed co-founders Keonne Rodriguez and William Lonergan Hill as signatories.
“Keonne Rodriguez and William Lonergan Hill agree to transter Bitcoin worth
approximately $6,367,139.69 to the United States Marshals Service (USMS). Keonne Rodriguez and William Lonergan Hill further consent to voluntary liquidation of the Bitcoin by the USMS and conversion to United States currency,” the document stamped under the U.S. Districts Court Southern District of New York reads.

The dates on the document indicate that the deed was finalized between October and November 2025.
As of now, neither the USMS nor the DoJ has addressed the development. There has also been no statement from President Trump as of now.
Back in December 2025, President Trump had said he was looking to reevaluate the recent conviction of Samourai Wallet co-founders after they admitted to have participated in money laundering activities and are presently serving their prison sentences.
