- CZ sounded the alert about the breach on Wednesday, October 1
- He later confirmed that the account was breached and used for circulating phishing links
- The impact of the breach remains unclear for now
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has alerted the community that the official account of the BNB Chain has been compromised. On Wednesday, October 1, CZ strongly directed the community to not connect their wallets to the string of random links that were posted through the @BNBChain account.
The BNBChain account has a following of 3.5 million on X. On Wednesday, a number of posts were shared through that handle, inviting users to claim rewards by participating in a network vote.
“BNB Rewards Vote: Users are invited to vote on the upcoming $BSC rewards date. Those who vote in the first 24 hours will be given an early $BSC reward,” the now deleted post said.

Following CZ’s initial alert of a potential scam, the BNBChain account was seemingly recovered and the scam posts were deleted.
CZ later confirmed that these posts led to phishing websites that prompted users to connect their wallets to receive the rewards.
“Security teams have notified X already, working to suspend the account first, then restore access. Also take-down requests to take down all phishing websites,” the Binance founder noted.
In light of the increasing cyber threats hovering over the crypto sector, CZ has reiterated the need for the crypto community to be alert on suspicious links being circulated through verified or un-verified accounts.
“Always check the domains very carefully, even from official X handles,” he said.
The official BNBChain account has neither confirmed nor denied the account breach incident as of now. The impact of the breach remains unclear for now.
