Over three months into 2026 and crypto scams are already making it to the headlines on a regular basis. In a fresh development, the New York unit of the FBI has sounded an alert around an ongoing scam being initiated on the Tron blockchain.

In a post on X, FBI New York said that a fake crypto token coined after the agency’s identity has found to be making the rounds in the investor circle. The federal agency clarified that it is not represented by any crypto token, asking investors to be alert.

“If you have received this ‘FBI token’ and provided your information on their site, please file a report at ic3.gov,” the FBI said, directing potential victims to the Internet Crime Complaint Center.

The agency has strictly warned the investor community against engaging with any website advertising any token appearing linked to the FBI.

The Tron blockchain is an open-source, decentralized Layer-1 blockchain created by China’s Justin Sun. Its mainnet was launched in 2018 and since then it has managed to establish itself as a strong competitors like Ethereum owing to its low cost transactions and stablecoin supporting expertise.

Owing to its low fees and high speed provisions, its easy for anybody to launch tokens on the network. It is, however, taking steps to control its network’s exploit by engaging in advanced security practices.

It is part of the T3 unit along with Tether and TRM Labs, collectively that are working to track illicit activities on blockchain networks. The network has also deployed TronScan for developers to publish their token source code for a quick screening.

As of now, Tron has not responded to FBI’s warning of scammers using its network to mint the fake FBI token.
