Gilles Roth to speak at Bitcoin Amsterdam 2025: Here’s what it means for Europe

Gilles Roth chosen as speaker for Bitcoin Amsterdam 2025: Here’s what he’s been advocating for

Luxembourg’s finance minister Gilles Roth has been chosen as one of the speakers for Bitcoin Amsterdam 2025—a cryptocurrency event in Europe that is drawing major personalities such as Author Saifedean Ammous, Gemini founders Cameron & Tyler Winklevoss, and Blockstream CEO Adam Back, and others.

What’s the FM’s stance on digital assets and financial market regulation?

Roth is considered a supporter of digital assets in Europe. He is also in favor of digitalizing the finance system and removing roadblocks to traditional investing, which has multiple regulations governing asset classes in the EU.

Roth is affiliated with the Christian Social People’s Party and has been serving as Finance Minister since 2023 before which he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies starting from 2007.

According to an interview with KPMG, he said that the adoption of new technologies was a major challenge, but Luxembourg is being responsive to the innovations in financial markets, having adopted the Blockchain Act in 2024, after which MiCA regulation took effect in January 2025.

Gilles Roth has also said he is worried about the possibility of an investment fund being placed under the purview of an EU regulator, as per a Luxembourg Times report, stating that the proposal would place a significant burden on financial firms.

Recent instances of the Finance Minister being bullish on emerging sectors include his visit to a Fintech hub in Quebec and his meeting with Ripple as the company works towards securing a license in Luxembourg.

While Luxembourg is considered one of the most crypto friendly nations in Europe, it is also far behind nations such as Switzerland, Malta, and Portugal.
