Blockchain company Ripple has gifted a total of $1.3 million in RLUSD to help California-based Berkeley’s College of Engineering launch its new Center for Digital Assets, as per an official update.
The funding support will be provided by Ripple’s UBRI, or University Blockchain Research Institute, which has been active in giving assistance to universities around the world to develop resources for education on blockchain technology.
The update comes three months after Ripple committed $5 million to the UBRI in a bid to deepen research in universities on the field in the APAC region.

“Digital content has been part of our human experience and economic systems for decades,” said Berkeley’s associate dean Tarik Zohdi.
“The overall mission of the center is to foster pioneering research, education, innovation and entrepreneurship within the broader digital asset technology landscape.”
“As a founding member of Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative, UC Berkeley has played a pivotal role in driving digital asset innovation,” said Ripple’s senior director of University Partnerships, Lauren Weymouth.
“The launch of the Center for Digital Assets builds on that legacy and reinforces Berkeley’s leadership in shaping the next era of research, education and industry impact.”
