Tether on Monday launched “MiningOS” as an open-source operating system for Bitcoin mining. The stablecoin major said this free-to-use product is different from present models because its design is modular. Essentially, Tether claimed, each function from site monitoring to performance reporting would exist as an independent app, connected through a interconnected API layer.
With this OS, Tether is looking to scale Bitcoin mining operations that is presently reliant heavily on advanced, power-intensive computers. Debuting MiningOS, the USDT-issuer said that tool will be able to scale garage miners to large-scale gigawatt farms within an app.
“The mining industry has long been limited by closed systems and proprietary tools. MiningOS changes that — introducing transparency, openness, and collaboration into the core of Bitcoin infrastructure. No black boxes. No lock-in. No Limits,” the official announcement noted.

Through a peer-to-peer network, MiningOS is capable of running local network stack that lets devices connect with each other directly. This essentially minimizes latency, maximizes uptime, and keeps operations private.
“Optimize and coordinate energy usage across every source in real time, connects seamlessly to a wide range of ASICs, cooling systems, power units, and containers, and tracks performance across miners, units, and sites,” Tether noted.
Tether had first announced intensions of launching this open-source BTC mining OS in June 2025. It had said new generation of miners should get simpler inroads to step into the industry.
Tether had been dabbling in BTC mining since 2023 with establishing operations in Uruguay.
