Changpeng Zhao-backed Trust Wallet has started reimbursements for the victims of its latest security incident that led to the losses of upto $7 million. In an update shared on X, the wallet player said that it has already completed the first set of compensations to the eligible users.
The Trust Wallet team is reaching out through emails to the impacted victims to share updates about the ongoing reimbursement process. The platform has reported having received 95 percent of the affected funds.
In an advisory issued to the impacted users Trust Wallet said. “Wallets affected by the Browser Extension v2.68 incident should no longer be used.”
After updating the browser extension, Trust Wallet users have been directed to migrate their funds to a new wallet and “abandon” the compromised one.
“We’ve implemented a new “Migrate assets” feature to help users securely move funds from wallets affected by the Trust Wallet Browser Extension v2.68 security incident to a safe wallet. This tool is located at the top of the screen on both Browser Extension and mobile app,” the platform noted.
In the last week of December 2025, multiple users of the self-custodial wallet witnessed fund drains following an extension upgrade on Chrome. Zhao, the founder of Binance, was soon confirmed the development and said extension version 2.68 was compromised leading to the fund drain.
As part of the breach, crypto assets like Bitcoin, Ether, and Binance Coin were stolen and displaced.
