Tech companies Amazon and Google have joined their cloud platform in a bid for better connectivity and interoperability, as per official statements released by both companies.
The update comes after AWS suffered an outage that rendered many of its apps, such as Canva, Amazon, Duolingo, and Snapchat, unusable.
The official statement by Google stated that, prior to this launch, connecting cloud services from different platforms was a complicated process.
While the multi-cloud service connects both Amazon and Google’s platforms for now, Microsoft Azure will join the multicloud starting from 2026.
“This collaboration between AWS and Google Cloud represents a fundamental shift in multicloud connectivity,” said AWS’s VP of Network Services Robert Kennedy.
“By defining and publishing a standard that removes the complexity of any physical components for customers, with high availability and security fused into that standard, customers no longer need to worry about any heavy lifting to create their desired connectivity. When they need multicloud connectivity, it’s ready to activate in minutes with a simple point and click,”
The collaboration between the firms is expected to strengthen users’ access to various cloud-based applications and comes at a time when the competition between the two for building the best infrastructure for AI, particularly, is heating up.
