Tech giant Amazon is reportedly planning to lay off 15% of its HR staff, according to sources who have told Fortune magazine.
The update comes amid the company’s continued expansion of its presence in AI and data centers.
Known as the People eXperience and Technology team, the sources have also indicated that Amazon’s consumer business segment will face job cuts.

Amazon’s business has been the focus of a restructuring effort with AI expected to give added efficiency to operations, allowing for leaner teams.
CEO Andy Jassey has said that AI will eventually lead to cuts, writing in an email sent company-wide that employees who use the technology would be “well-positioned”, according to People Matters India.
The exact number of layoffs and the timing of the cuts still remain unknown.

Known mainly for its huge presence in e-commerce, Amazon is ramping up its involvement in AI and cloud computing with a $20 billion investment in Pennsylvania, and a Q2 report that indicated a significant ramp-up in offerings with AI integrations as well.
