NDAChain: Vietnam debuts national blockchain platform

Vietnam deploys national blockchain for identity and records

Vietnam has joined the list of nations that have taken a big step into exploring the blockchain sector. On Friday, July 25, Vietnam debuted its government-backed national blockchain platform named NDAChain. This will allow the government and local financial institutions to conduct secure blockchain trials. This chain will serve as a verification layer for Vietnam’s National Data Centre to initiate Web3-focussed experiments.

As the race to explore the blockchain technology heat up internationally, more governments are undertaking regulated efforts to venture into the sector. Vietnam is among Asian nations like India, Bhutan, and South Korea to have been preparing a roadmap to foray into the sector for a while now.

How will NDAChain work

Vietnam’s National Data Association (NDA) has designed this permissioned Layer-1 blockchain, leading to it being named the NDAChain. It is being pitched as the foundational layer for verifying data linked to the government and private sectors including e-government, finance, healthcare, logistics, and education.

According to an official announcement, the NDAChain is expected to secure sensitive data against cyberattacks and improve features like data scalability and global integration.

“NDAChain acts as a protective layer for the nation’s live data, critical to our digital society and economy,” said Nguyen Huy, NDA’s Head of Technology commenting on the development. “Vietnam has chosen a hybrid data architecture that blends centralized and decentralized components.”

In the coming months, the National Data Center there is planning to create a blockchain-based central repository for citizen and national data.

The government of Vietnam believes that blockchain, the technology that supports cryptocurrencies, can improve the authentication and data tracing of high-stakes, cross-sector interactions. Blockchain brings features like immutability, transparency, and decentralized to the table.

Vietnam’s plans for the NDAChain

By 2026, Vietnam plans to expand the use of the NDAChain to local government agencies and educational institutions.

“NDAChain is not only a national technology infrastructure but also a launchpad for startups, tech firms, and private organizations to develop digital services. These may include identity wallets, anti-counterfeit solutions, traceability platforms, or digital notarization services across verticals,” the announcement noted.

The next stage of its development will focus on putting the NDAChain for use in workforce development and international collaboration. The NDA also plans to launch Layer-2 blockchain supported by the NDAChain.

Vietnam has acknowledged that the trend of launching national blockchain platform is picking pace in multiple parts of the world. It mentioned platforms including BSN (China), EBSI (EU), and Klaytn (South Korea) as examples. The country houses over 100 million citizens aspires to keep up with the global digital advancements, it said in its statement.
