Plume Network, a layer-2 blockchain focused on real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, has officially registered as a transfer agent with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) a move that solidifies its regulatory footing and advances the integration of traditional finance with blockchain infrastructure.
Plume gains SEC recognition to bridge blockchain and traditional markets
The registration allows Plume to manage tokenized securities under US law, replicating and automating traditional transfer agent functions such as shareholder registry maintenance, ownership transfers, and corporate actions all conducted onchain.
Company registration enables it to connect cap tables and reporting directly to SEC and DTCC systems, streamlining how securities are issued, tracked, and settled. The Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC) plays a critical role in traditional securities settlement, and Plume’s integration marks an important step in merging legacy financial systems with blockchain architecture.
Building infrastructure for institutional tokenization
The milestone follows Plume’s $20 million funding round in December, led by Brevan Howard Digital, Huan Ventures, and Galaxy Ventures, aimed at accelerating development of its tokenization platform. Since then, the firm has facilitated over $62 million in tokenized assets through Nest Credit, its fixed-income vault tailored for institutional investors.
Plume CEO Chris Yin described the current phase of RWA development as being similar to the early Bitcoin adoption era, emphasizing that while the total tokenized RWA market stands at roughly $33 billion, actual institutional participation remains relatively small.
Most tokenized activity so far has focused on US Treasury bills and private credit, but Yin highlighted tokenization’s broader potential for fundraising, investor engagement, and cap table transparency key features that can modernize capital markets.
Institutional adoption grows amid rising regulatory clarity
Despite a slowdown in overall crypto venture capital investment, funding for RWA infrastructure has remained strong, reflecting continued confidence in its real-world utility. Platforms such as Robinhood and Kraken have already introduced tokenized stock products, while the SEC is evaluating rule changes to allow traditional equities to be tokenized and traded on crypto exchanges.
This momentum signals an accelerating convergence between traditional financial systems and blockchain networks, positioning Plume as a leading player in building the infrastructure for onchain securities management.
