Startale, the Tokyo-based Web3 infrastructure firm, has hopped onboard the “SuperApp” hype. On Tuesday, November 11 the company behind Astar Network unveiled the “Startale App” that is designed as an access point into Soneium’s Web3 ecosystem. Soneium is a Layer-2 blockchain owned by tech giant Sony, that was launched in August 2024.

Sota Watanabe, the CEO of the Starlate Group has claimed the app has been designed to reduce fragmentation in Web3 adoption and user experience.

“We’ve built a platform that makes going onchain as intuitive as opening any mainstream app, while ensuring interoperability across Ethereum and ecosystems worldwide, including Japan’s regulated digital asset ecosystem,” Watanabe said in a statement.

How will the super-app work?

Select up and coming crypto projects building on Soneium would be able to use the Startale App to deliver airdrops, loyalty rewards, and exclusive experiences to their users. The platform will essentially serve as the official consumer layer for Soneium.

The app will give users access to the Web3 ecosystem and earn airdrops and rewards. Startale has claimed that the app will actively eliminate Web3 friction points by removing seed phrases, gas-free experiences, and easy wallet management solutions.

Following Telegram’s strategy, Startale has also added a Mini Apps dashboard to the application to allow developers build their projects directly on Soneium.

“It’s about unifying the infrastructure that powers it, bringing the world onchain with Ethereum, and positioning Soneium as the default gateway for the next generation of users seeking to participate in ecosystem growth,” Watanabe said.

For now, the app will be released in its Beta version globally and those interested in exploring it can join the waitlist for more information, Startale has informed.

Position of Soneium, Startale in Web3

Sony had launched Soneium in August 2024 as a L-2 blockchain built in partnership with Startale atop the Ethereum blockchain. At the time, the two entities had jointly also launched a new unit called the Sony Block Solutions Labs (Sony BSL) to monitor developments around Soneium with Watanabe being named the Director of this unit.

As per data shared by Startale on Tuesday, Soneium has already generated over 380 million transactions across more than 5.1 million wallets since its launch last year. It also recently hit 4.4 million transactions daily, the announcement shared with CoinHeadlines claimed.

Earlier this year, Soneium had announced its own incubator programme called “Soneium For All” to connect with blockchain developers and help early-stage projects.

Startale, meanwhile, bagged a partnership with Japan’s SBI to chalk out a roadmap to boost stablecoin exploration in the country.
