- Musk said AI could be leveraged to simulate software development
- He plans to use AI to code software programming via Macrohard
- More details on the plan remains awaited
Elon Musk is planning to create a software firm that will purely work on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Over the weekend, the billionaire unveiled the name of this upcoming firm as “Macrohard” — a literal, rather tongue-in-cheek antonym to Microsoft.
Announcing the plans, Musk said AI could be leveraged to simulate software development — given that software firms like Microsoft are not in the business of manufacturing any hardware.
“Join xAI and help build a purely AI software company called Macrohard. It’s a tongue-in-cheek name, but the project is very real!” Musk quipped, announcing the development.

The development aligns with a recent trademark filing for Macrohard that xAI submitted to the U.S. Patent Office on August 1.
Musk also recently mentioned that xAI, within the next five years, is aiming to compute power equivalent to 50 million Nvidia H100 GPUs which are enterprise-grade graphics chip popularly utilized for AI training and powering chatbots.
In the backdrop of Macrohard plans, Musk has started scouting for professions to join his “supercomputing” team. Aditya Prerepa, a member of xAI’s supercomputing team has posted about hirings on X.
For now, more details on Macrohard remain awaited. Microsoft, meanwhile, has also not commented on Musk’s plans as yet.
