Elon Musk is planning to create an online knowledge repository with a flavor of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The multi-billionaire tech mogul has tasked his AI firm, xAI with the creation of “Grokipedia”. As the name suggests, it seems that the platform will be powered by Musk’s interactive AI chatbot Grok — that lets individuals ask questions and get responses.
Grokipedia will be Musk’s take on Wikipedia — a database of information that was launched in January 2001 by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger.
In a September 30 post on X, Musk invited developers to join xAI to contribute in building the Grokipedia.
He said, this knowledge repository will be “vastly better than Wikipedia” and be “available to the public with no limits on use”.
Hexiang Hu from the xAI said, “Grokpedia would be world’s most comprehensive knowledge base, borned with rich multi-modal sources: image, audio, video.”
Wikipedia, in so many years, has maintained its platform interface to be majorly text oriented. It includes images and links to related search topics — but does not provide any video or audio assistance.
For years now, Wikipedia has been relying on donations to fund its management.
In December last year, Musk had called for a halt in donations to Wikipedia seeking balance in the platform’s editing authority.
For now, more details on Grokipedia remain awaited.
