Days after Mark Zuckerberg said he plans to invest billions into Artificial Intelligence (AI), Meta has snagged two more AI experts from Apple for its Superintelligence Labs unit. Mark Lee, reportedly from the Apple Foundation Models (AFM) team — has exited the iPhone-maker to contribute to Meta’s AI ambitions.

Meta’s poaching of AI experts from other Big Tech giants has been making to the headlines very frequently in recent months. Apple, especially, seems to have lost some senior officials to Meta’s quest to assemble an elite team for its recently launched AI-focussed Superintelligence Labs.

Earlier last week, Ruoming Pang from Apple’s foundation models team shifted to Meta. Media reports said he was offered a multi-year deal at a hefty package surging over $200 million. As per 9To2Mac, Lee was hired by Pang at Apple.

Earlier in June, Zuckerberg also roped-in senior Apple researcher Tom Gunter after him having served for eight years at the Tim Cook-led firm.

Meta’s Superintelligence Labs unit was announced on July 1. This week, Zuckerberg outlined his intentions for the Superintelligence team through a post on Facebook.

“Meta Superintelligence Labs will have industry-leading levels of compute and by far the greatest compute per researcher. I’m looking forward to working with the top researchers to advance the frontier,” the 41-year-old tech mogul had noted.

As per Zuckerberg, Meta is creating several multi-gigawatt superclusters for AI computation and the first one named “Prometheus” is likely to go live in 2026.

Of late, Meta has poached AI talent from Big Tech firms like Google and Microsoft as well, to build his Superintelligence team.
