Sam Altman’s firm OpenAI could be venturing into making physical devices, as per a report by Reuters.

The first to report on the new development was the Information.

OpenAI has 200 workers, reportedly working on smart speakers and smart glasses.

If the report is confirmed, it would mean that OpenAI will be entering into a vertical that already has companies like Apple and Meta working to create products of their own, such as Meta’s smart Ray Ban glasses.

The Information said the speaker’s cost is estimated between $200 and $300, with a launch slated for 2027, while the glasses are expected to launch for mass production in 2028.

While OpenAI has no wearable available for purchase, the firm has tried to target the wearables market with features integrated into OpenAI, such as OpenAI Health, which helps to track fitness metrics and provide clarity with health issues by looking through diagnostics.

There has been strong doubt as to whether feeding confidential patient data is a safe thing to do with OpenAI.

OpenAI is a privately held company, and it is the most valuable private startup, valued at more than $500 billion.
