Sam Altman’s OpenAI is now looking to hire a Head of Preparedness to help the company manage its operations as potential risks from AI increase, as per an official press release.
The role offers compensation of $555,000 along with equity.
Sam Altman said on X that the role is a critical one for the company, noting that AI has become so good that there needs to be an exploration of how AI-related capabilities could be abused.
“We have a strong foundation of measuring growing capabilities, but we are entering a world where we need more nuanced understanding and measurement of how those capabilities could be abused, and how we can limit those downsides both in our products and in the world, in a way that lets us all enjoy the tremendous benefits,” said Altman on X.
As per the job posting, the Head of Preparedness will be expected to lead technical strategy and execution of OpenAI’s preparedness framework and will also be considered responsible for building and coordinating capability evaluations, threat models, and mitigations.
“As we expect model capabilities to continue to increase and we continue implementing increasingly complex safeguards, this work remains a major priority,” read the job description.
The update comes at a time when AI models are being flagged for their ability to encourage suicide or other forms of risky behaviour. China has recently taken action with a set of rules to clamp down specifically on AI chatbots.
