OpenAI has announced a new feature for ChatGPT called shopping research, an enhanced integration that is supposed to help interested buyers quicken their search for their preferred products.
The update comes as all firms focused on AI attempt to differentiate themselves through upgrades and new features.
The new feature is expected to help users find exactly what they’re looking for through “clarifiying questions” and deep internet research.
Shopping research will be rolled out starting today to users of ChatGPT who are on Free, Pro, Go, and Plus versions of the chatbot.
OpenAI has said in its product update that this is still not an optimal version of the feature and that users may not get correct price information and other relevant insights into the product, advising them to check on the merchant website for accurate details.
The company also previously released an instant checkout feature that allows shoppers to buy from sellers on Etsy directly within the platform, as part of their upgrade in agentic-AI capabilities and AI-powered commerce. The integration was secured in collaboration with payment infrastructure company Stripe.
