Poland to seek EU probe over Grok’s offensive AI content

Poland to report Musk's chatbot Grok to EU for offensive comments

Poland is set to urge European Union (EU) regulators to investigate Elon Musk’s Grok AI. Krzysztof Gawkowski, Poland’s digitization minister spoke about the plan in a recent radio interview citing that the AI chatbot has been generating offensive content about Polish politicians in its user interactions.

Poland’s ministry of digitisation is batting for a hefty fine on Grok and its Musk-owned parent firm xAI through European Commission’s intervention in the situation.

“I have the impression that we are entering a higher level of hate speech, which is driven by algorithms. Freedom of speech belongs to humans, not to artificial intelligence (AI),” a Reuters report quoted Gawkowski as saying.

Grok reportedly drew the attention of Polish authorities after generating derogatory content targeting Prime Minister Donald Tusk and other national politicians. A report by The Guardian claimed that Grok has been addressing Tusk in abusive and racially inappropriate terms – raising concerns about its quality of content in Poland.

As of now, neither Musk nor xAI has commented on Poland’s plans to seek EU’s probe on Grok.

Poland, however, is not the only country that has raised red flags against Grok in recent days.

This week itself, a Turkish court instructed all national telecom operators to restrict access to the chatbot owing to similar complaints. Grok, reportedly, had been generating offensive content around Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, his late mother, as well as around members from Turkey’s media fraternity and other public personalities.

X has reportedly acknowledged the ongoing issues surrounding Grok and has stated that steps are being taken to remove hate speech and questionable content from the chatbot.
