Aerospace engineering firm Rolls-Royce has signed a memorandum of understanding with UAE flag carrier Emirates, an agreement that will allow the airline to carry out maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for its own fleet’s Trent 900 engines.
The Trent 900 engine was created by Rolls Royce plc to power the A380 aircraft and, accordingly, forms a vital part of the Emirates fleet. It has been powering aircraft engines for over 20 years and is a competitive alternative to the GP7000 engine created by U.S. manufacturer Engine Alliance.
Today, both engines are routinely fitted into A380 airbuses worldwide.
“Today’s announcement marks another milestone in our journey to significantly increase our global MRO capacity and capability by 2030. Our global network combines a strong mix of Rolls-Royce owned facilities, joint ventures and strategic collaborations with industry partners. We are delighted to welcome Emirates to that mix ahead of the new facility opening in 2027,” said Rolls-Royce Director Paul Keenan
As part of the agreement, Emirates will build a new facility in 2027 where it will carry out fan case repairs.
At the time of writing, Rolls-Royce plc shares were trading at a price of 1089.5 GBX.
