Engineering firm Rolls-Royce will be supplying a total of eight electric power generators to Spanish shipping company Baleària, as per an official press release.
The emergency power generators will be used on two electric ferries powered by the shipping firm.
The update comes after Rolls-Royce said via press release it signed an MoU with Emirates’ to maintain the airline’s Trent engines.
The generators will be used on a route between the strategic port cities of Morocco’s Tangier and Spain’s Tarifa, with shipping expected to start by 2027, covering a distance of 18 nautical miles.
“The project is a prime example of how emission-free shipping and reliable system technology go hand in hand,” said Rolls-Royce Power Systems’ senior expert Phil Kordic.
At the time of writing, Rolls-Royce shares were trading at 1,103.50 GBX per share.
Rolls-Royce’s power division routinely supplies energy infrastructure to large-scale companies that sometimes require emergency backup generators to power their operations.
Baleària was founded in 1998 and is owned by Moroccan-born businessman Adolfo Utor, who leads the company as President and sole shareholder.
