Engineering and infrastructure company Rolls-Royce will supply a total of 7 backup power generators called mtu gensets to Kuwait International Airport as it expands its energy infrastructure, as per an official press release.
Delivery of these gensets is scheduled for early 2026 and is to be built in Terminal 2 of the airport, which is still being constructed and expected to have an annual capacity of 25 million passengers.
The official statement says Rolls-Royce has supplied its emergency power systems to help secure infrastructure around the world, including data centres, airports, hospitals, e.t.c
The update comes two months after Rolls-Royce was reportedly exploring the possibility of venturing into infrastructure that could power AI via deals signed with the Czech and U.K. governments, according to a BBC report.
The agreements in place were for providing SMRs or Small Modular Reactors to both countries. SMRs, in theory, can harness tremendous amounts of energy from nuclear sources for AI applications.
Rolls-Royce has been growing at an aggressive pace in terms of share price under CEO Tufan Erginbilgiç, who is highly bullish on AI and has pointed out the firm’s potential (in comments to the BBC) to become a market leader due to its nuclear capabilities. Erginbilgiç took over as CEO in January 2023.
