The U.S. House of Representatives narrowly approved the Senate-amended ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ on Thursday, keeping President Trump’s hopes alive of passing the bill before the July 4th deadline. The vote came through with a slim margin of  218–214 votes, marking a major legislative milestone for President Trump’s second-term agenda.

Only two Republicans joined all House Democrats in opposing the sweeping tax and spending package. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries delivered a record-setting 8 hours, 44 minutes speech to delay the vote and highlight concerns over budget cuts. This completes the legislative process as the Senate passed the amended version on July 1 by a 51–50 margin, with Vice President Vance casting the deciding vote.

Now, with both chambers in agreement, the 900-page reconciliation bill will be sent to the President for his signature. Trump marked his political win while in Iowa, where he joined the launch of a yearlong series of events leading up to America’s 250th anniversary. He is likely to sign the bill into law on Friday at the White House.

“I’m grateful to the Republican lawmakers; what they achieved is truly remarkable,” he said. The president also took a swipe at Democrats, claiming they opposed the bill simply out of dislike for him, adding, “They hate Trump, but I hate them too.”
