One of the largest corporate holders of Ethereum, SharpLink Gaming, formally announced a name change on Tuesday to SharpLink, as per an official press release.
The name change is a move to concretize its focus on digital assets. The company’s stock ticker remains unchanged and will continue to trade as SBET on the NASDAQ.
Other standard operating practices and the board of directors remain unchanged following the announcement.
This is not the first company holding large amounts of cryptocurrency to make such a change. In 2025, Strategy changed its name from MicroStrategy to Strategy, to refocus its brand identity as solely a Bitcoin treasury company. Metaplanet also changed its name from Red Planet Japan in 2024, to transition to its new business of hodling Bitcoin.
At the time of writing, SharpLink’s shares were trading at $7.44, down by 4.56%.
Sharplink’s last formal announcement on ETH holdings was made in October 2025, when holdings had risen to 859,853 ETH with total ETH and cash holdings valued at $3.5 billion. The company has adopted a fierce ETH accumulation strategy over the past year.
The company deploys the majority of its holdings into staking protocols to earn a passive income as well.
While still behind BlackRock and BitMine Immersion Technologies in terms of ETH ownership, SharpLink still commands a huge stake in the crypto treasury market.
In December last year, Joseph Chalom was made sole CEO of SharpLink Gaming following a leadership shuffle.
