Investment group Softbank posted full-year earnings showing a massive gain from its OpenAI investment, as per a Reuters report.
The firm has a substantial investment in OpenAI of $30 billion, on which it has reported gains of $19.8 billion. The company also has a partnership involving Stargate with its energy-focused subsidiary SB Energy and OpenAI.
Softbank previously closed its $5.8 billion stake in NVIDIA in a bid to focus its capital more on OpenAI.
OpenAI could be doing its IPO this year, which is expected to be one of the largest market debuts ever done by a company based on its huge valuation.
Softbank reported a net profit of $1.62 billion in the quarter running from October to December.
One of the company’s main investment funds, called Vision Fund 2 investment vehicle, contains the entirety of its stake in OpenAI. SoftBank increased its margin loan using stock in Arm—another fund of the firm—from $13.5 billion to $20 billion.
At the time of writing, Softbank’s shares were trading at 4,817 Japanese yen.
