Amazon-backed AI firm Anthropic is making a mark in India, where it is to be part of the ongoing AI Impact Summit 2026. Along the sidelines of this five day conference being held in New Delhi, Anthropic has inaugurated its office in Bengaluru, often referred to as India’s Silicon Valley owing to its thriving corporate tech ecosystem.
Anthropic, headquartered in US’ San Francisco, was founded by former OpenAI officials — Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei — who presently serve as the CEO and President of the AI firm. Often pitted as a major rival to OpenAI, Anthropic is the creator of the Claude large language model (LLM), trained via a set of written rules to keep its responses more neutral and objective.
The AI firm has called India the second-largest market for Claude.ai internationally. Sharing its observation Anthropic said that nearly half of the Claude AI users in India engage on tasks related to computers, maths, app building, and software development.
“India is the home to a developer community doing some of the most technically intense AI work we see anywhere,” the AI firm founded in January 2021 said in an official post.
Inaugurating its Bengaluru office, Anthropic also announced a plethora of partnerships across the enterprise, education, and agriculture sectors.
Digital Green, Adalat AI, Karya, and the Collective Intelligence Project are among India-focussed projects that Anthropic has decided to join for a deeper understanding of the Indian market.
“Already, it’s home to extraordinary technical talent, digital infrastructure at scale, and a proven track record of using technology to improve people’s lives. That’s exactly the foundation you need to make sure this technology reaches the people who can benefit from it most,” said Irina Ghose, Managing Director of India, Anthropic.
The AI firm highlighted that it had been expanding its roots in India for a while now. It said last year it started an effort to train its Claude AI in the ten most widely spoken languages in India, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, and Punjabi among others.
“This resulted in improvements to our models, and we continue to work on enhancing their fluency,” it noted.
As part of its future plans in India, Anthropic is looking to provide AI expertise to enterprises and startups while also looking to engage with schools and colleges to spread AI awareness among students.
