Silicon Valley tech firm Meta will be completely scrapping the VR version of Horizon Worlds–its metaverse, which was created as part of an ambitious push 5 years back—and shifting it to mobile, as per an official blog post on Tuesday. Horizon Worlds will no longer be available on Quest headsets.

“Earlier this year, we shared an update on our renewed focus for VR and Horizon. We are separating the two platforms so each can grow with greater focus, and the Horizon Worlds platform will become a mobile-only experience,” read the update

“This separation will extend across our ecosystem, including our mobile app. To support this vision, we are making the following changes to streamline your Quest experience throughout 2026,”

The update comes as a result of Meta’s shift away from its grand Metaverse plans in 2021, with the company now opting to focus on establishing its presence in wearable devices and data centers. In February, Meta reportedly signed a multi-billion-dollar deal with Google to rent its AI chips.

By the end of the month, Meta Horizon Worlds, Meta Horizon Hyperscape Capture, Meta Horizon Plus Perks will all be scrapped, marking a rollback of its Virtual reality game. Final shutdown of its VR service is expected to be completed by June 15th.
