OpenAI will be testing ads on ChatGPT free and ChatGPT go, as per an official press release on Friday. The largest pure-play AI company in the world will be attempting to monetize its most-used tool as it continues to roll out more versions and features of ChatGPT to new regions.
“In the coming weeks, we plan to start testing ads in ChatGPT free and Go tiers. We’re sharing our principles early on how we’ll approach ads–guided by putting user trust and transparency first as we work to make AI accessible to everyone,” read the X post announcing the new integration of ads.
OpenAI has clarified that user conversations and search queries with ChatGPT will not be influenced by ads; a pattern that has been observed on traditional tech and social media platforms such as Google search, Facebook ads, X, WhatsApp, and other tools, often attributed to algorithms that quickly determine and cater to user intent. .
The update comes after OpenAI introduced a ChatGPT health feature on a limited basis to help users with any queries related to wellness, fitness, dieting, ailments, and doctor consultations.
The update also comes alongside another on the same day; OpenAI will be rolling ChatGPT Go worldwide after introducing it in India first as a low-cost subscription option to target consumers in the emerging market. Prior to the announcement of making it globally available whereever ChatGPT was accessible, ChatGPT Go was available in 170 countries.
“We’re not launching ads yet, but we do plan to start testing in the coming weeks for logged in adults in the U.S. on the free and Go tiers.” read the official statement.
“To start, we plan to test ads at the bottom of answers in ChatGPT when there’s a relevant sponsored product or service based on your current conversation,”
