Hospitals in the U.K. are using AI tools to cut down on waiting times through predictive technology that calculates the busiest period for the A&E department, as per an official press release.
The A&E demand forecasting tool helps to predict when certain healthcare departments will be the busiest. The tool is already in use by fifty organizations under the NHS.
The official statement says that the new implementation means smarter shift planning and more bed space in the long term.
AI tools in the healthcare sector have demonstrated utility, such as Ultromics’ AI tech, a diagnostic tool that helps clinicians detect cardiac conditions.
“AI is already improving healthcare by speeding up diagnosis and unlocking new treatments. Now we are going a step further,” said Technology Secretary Liz Kendall.
“By helping to predict demand, this AI forecasting tool is getting patients the care they need faster while supporting our incredible NHS staff,” she also said.
“The AI revolution is here and we are arming our NHS staff with the latest technology to help slash A&E waits for patients this busy winter period,” said Health Innovation Minister Zubair Ahmed.
“Innovations like these will help hospitals manage winter pressure and prioritise resources over the coming months as we continue to battle a tidal wave of flu,” he also said.
