A U.S. judge has ruled that tech company Amazon must face a lawsuit that accuses it of price gouging, as per a Reuters report.
The lawsuit alleges that Amazon is to be held liable for instances of price gouging carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic, mainly because it failed to stop sellers from using the company’s popular platform to charge customers high prices for essential products.
U.S. District Judge Robert Lasik was the one who found the claim by Amazon not persuasive. Amazon claimed that Washington State Consumer laws were vague when it came to pricing.
This is not the first time an e-commerce platform has been held accountable for instances of mispricing. France had fined Chinese e-commerce platform Shein in July over deceptive business practices such as incorrect discounts and unclear environmental claims.
