Sam Altman’s OpenAI and toymaker Mattel will be collaborating using the AI firm’s recently debuted Sora 2, as per a Reuters report dated October 7th. The partnership involves testing the company’s new video generation model.
The update comes nearly a week after OpenAI released a new version of Sora on a limited basis to users in North America, with plans to roll out to other countries over time.
Earlier in June, both companies announced a strategic partnership that was expected to deploy AI experiences across Mattel’s products and services.
The deal represents a continued diversification of Mattel’s core business into new streams, a strategy it has adopted since the release of the Barbie film, as it moves away from its waning core business of dolls and toys.
Mattel will release its Q3 report by October 21st. Q2 revenues were $1.02 billion, with its Barbie doll segment down by 19% on a y-o-y basis. Mattel shares closed at $18.07 on Monday.
