United States President Donald Trump hosted the much-awaited gala dinner for the 220 top investors in his crypto memecoin on May 22, at his private country club near Washington DC. Dressed in tuxedos and driving in their luxury SUV, guests who attended had a brief time with the President, who arrived in his Marine One helicopter. Among the known attendees were TRON’s Justin Sun, who is among the top holders of the TRUMP meme coin, and former professional basketball player Lamar Odom.
Just ahead of the dinner, Trump wrote on his Truth Social, stating— “The U.S.A. is DOMINATING in Crypto, Bitcoin, etc., and we are going to keep it that way!”
As the top holder of the TRUMP coin, Justin Sun gave others a glimpse of the event through his X post. He thanked the President for his unwavering support towards the crypto industry and also posted that he was awarded a Trump Golden Tourbillon watch by Trump!
Meanwhile, protesters gathered outside the golf course, carrying signs reading “stop crypto corruption” and “America is not for sale,” reported Channel News Asia. Earlier in the day, Democratic senators held a press conference to denounce the event, going to an extent of calling an “orgy of corruption”. Senator Elizabeth Warren slammed Trump for “using the presidency of the US to make himself richer through crypto”.
According to crypto intelligence firm Inca Digital, investors spent an estimated $148 million on the $TRUMP meme coin to secure their seats at the dinner, with the top-25 holders spending more than $111 million.
The announcement of the dinner gala at Trump’s golf club modestly boosted the memcoin’s price. But as attendees got indoors, the price of TRUMP saw a sudden drop of about 6%, a sign that could indicate a significant sales volume. The official Trump meme coin is trading around $13.76 at the time of reporting.
